Through convening a project team with expertise in arts education, youth sports, restorative justice, community archiving, local history, and participatory design methods, this lab brings together local history, creative placemaking, and youth engagement to share the stories of Black, Latinx, and Indigenous community members who are part of South Bend’s rich baseball and softball history. The work of the Collaborative exists in dialogue with local and regional history, using the physical field site and public art as a starting point to foster greater engagement with historical and contemporary issues of race, representation, and access in South Bend.
