Dynamic Translations

Research Innovation Cohort: 2025-2026

Translation has become a key field of research in the humanities.

The University of Notre Dame is in a great position to become a leader and a beacon in the field, especially at a time when substantial cuts are damaging the standing of historic programs, such as that in the Iowa Writers’ Center. This project aims to marshal existing strengths in a deliberate way, mobilizing faculty talent and interest through an engaging and intellectually stimulating project which builds on traditional activities such as textual translation, while also engaging in collaborations with the sociology of culture and intermedial translation.

Our translation lab will attend to the dynamic nature of translation and to the current translation boom by highlighting new and more dynamic models of translation. We will examine the mechanisms which have facilitated this boom in translation, notably via the literary prizes mentioned above.
