Carceral Studies

Research Innovation Cohort: 2024-2025

Incubating interdisciplinary, community-engaged research and practice.

They bring ND's existing strengths together in conversation and action with a diverse set of off-campus partners, in the critical study of states and societies organized by punishment and incarceration, and collectively pursues the transformation and abolishment of cultures of surveillance, policing, criminalization, and confinement. The Collaborative aims to produce new research, cultivate new networks, and create more just communities. Beyond simply gathering arts, humanities, engineering, and social sciences in the same multidisciplinary space, the Collaborative transforms research in collaboration with off- campus practitioners and partners whose work is already transforming our communities.
