Research

Research lies at the heart of the Franco Institute’s mission. For more than 40 years, our institute has played a key role in catalyzing scholarship and creative work in the College of Arts & Letters.

Franco Institute grants and fellowships support faculty endeavors across the arts, humanities, and social sciences, from the initial formation of research questions and teams to dissemination through conferences, publications, performances, and more. We offer services to help faculty develop competitive external funding proposals and plan academic events. We also support undergraduate and graduate students with grants for independent research and creative projects.

Each year, the Franco Institute sponsors a grant program and a symposium centered on an Annual Research Theme to foster scholarly engagement with topics of timely and enduring importance to society.

Franco-sponsored Research Innovation Collaboratives support interdisciplinary teams pursuing research questions with the potential for significant impact over the course of at least two years.

The Institute also awards fellowships each year that allow faculty to devote more time to research and writing while providing a forum for sharing and discussing their work in progress.
