Kyler Schubkegel

Kyler Schubkegel Lahti serves as a graduate student intern in the Franco Institute for the 2026-2027 academic year and works primarily with student grants and programming. He is a Ph.D. candidate in English and studies U.S. literatures from the 19th and 20th centuries. With investments in media theory, sound studies, genre studies, critical race studies, and religious studies, his research privileges lyric poetry but thinks broadly about literary forms as cultural technologies. His dissertation project tracks the treble fortunes of spiritual, racial, and literary "immediacies," taking up neglected archives of religious experience while reconsidering canonical texts by Jean Toomer, Gwendolyn Brooks, and others.
