As managing director, J. Aspen Tychonievich (Ph.D., University of Michigan) serves as a thought partner for the director, helping to draft and implement the Institute’s strategic plan. In addition to overseeing programming and grants, he manages the Institute’s operations, finances, and staff. He holds graduate degrees in history, East Asian studies, and women's and gender studies. Before coming to Notre Dame, he was assistant professor of history at the College of William and Mary.
